Chelmsford complete double over Whackers.

Chelmsford are still top of Essex Conference B after a 3-0 win over Brentwood Whackers. Captain and player of the match John Hill, led from the front as Chelmsford never looked in trouble in completing the double over Whackers who remain the only team to take a set from them.

Apart from injured Anash Vora, coach Paul Bohannan had a full squad for the match at Mildmay Sportscentre, Anglia Ruskin University. The first six choices saw Paul setting with John Hill, Mike Parkinson and Steve Peacock middle attack with Attwell Mlilo and Stuart Fairley outside attack. Chelmsford were quickly away behind the penetrative serve of Hill going 5-0 up. From there they eased off although Fairley was in good form hitting hard over the Whackers block. Cheered on by a noisy crowd of supporters, the home team eased their way through the set 25-21. Set two saw Brentwood start more brightly with some good blocking but with Hill now using the fast middle attack more often Chelmsford were soon back in control. At 18-14, Ed Knopp replaced Fairley and quickly settled in winning the final point with a disguised shot to see Chelmsford take it 25-17.

Set three saw Chelmsford fully in command. Gentry and Knopp were now the outside attack with the ever reliable Hill using all his hitters well to keep the Whackers block guessing. The pressure told on the visitors whose game began to unravel with unforced errors in serve and cover. The outcome of a 25-14 set for a 3-0 win provided Chelmsford with revenge for the set they dropped when they visited Brentwood.
