Essex Conference B Southend Meteors v Chelmsford 2 24-26, 14-25, 13-25 On a late and cold Sunday last, Chelmsford 2 travelled to the warmer climate of Clements Hall Leisure Centre to take on Southend Meteors. With a strong squad who all played their part Chelmsford won a nail-biting first set 26-24 before romping away with the next two 25-14, 25-13 as the home side wilted in the later stages. A service run of 8 points in the third which took Chelmsford from 5-5 to 13-5 up was a factor in the referees decision to award Steve Peacock player of the match, but everyone helped Matt Ruffells strong hitting was the difference in the first set, Anna Szafraniec led the defence with some wonderful recovery work and Marcin Kawulski is developing into an excellent middle played both in front and back court. Coach Ken Edwards was delighted by the emphatic win This was a game when we did all the right things we served tough, we received well and attacked when the ball was there. Defensively we were seldom caught out and everyone played well with their own cameo moments. There re things we need to do better and we will work on those in training as a coach we always want the team to do better! |
