Essex Conference B Chelmsford 2 lost to Southend Meteors 2-3 - set scores 25-15, 20-25,
25-17, 21-25, 15-12 In a close fought encounter at Anglia Ruskin University’s Mildmay Sportshall, Chelmsford Second team were just not strong enough to defeat visitors Southend Meteors going down 15-12 in the deciding set. Captain Steve Peacock who played throughout the game received the player of the match award from the officials This was a ding dong battle with the initiative going back and forth between the teams. Chelmsford used an unconventional line up playing almost a different team in sets two and four before returning to the line up that had won sets one and three for the decider. Unfortunately it didn’t work the third time as although they were 7-4 up, they let the lead slip away as Southend held their nerve to take the game by three sets to two. Chelmsford squad – Steve Peacock (capt), James Forrester, Larissa Feuchtmueller, Ken Edwards (coach), Alicia Hector, Rob Smethurst, Joshua Onakomaiya, Tom Ashley, Matt Ruffell, Matt Brooks, Thorsten Herbertz. Chelmsford have the opportunity to rebound with another home fixture on Thursday (tonight) against Exiles which has a warm up time of 8.30pm |
