20th March 2010 Chelmsford Volleyball teams show mixed abilities at the local Quiz More accustomed to performing a on a large indoor volleyball court, two teams from the club entered a general knowledge quiz at on Saturday in support of the Friends of Galleywood Heritage Centre. The results could not have been more different as one team scooped top prize whilst the other proudly flaunted their wooden spoons. Some 10 tables, of 8 people entered the quiz to be grilled by Quizmaster Roy Whitehead (better known to some as leader of the Borough Council) ably helped out by his wife Jacqui at the first Quiz to be held at the Galleywood Heritage Centre on Galleywood Common last Saturday. With two of the ten teams coming from Chelmsford Volleyball Club, it was obvious from the first round that each had a very different game plan. The Table 9 team with Paul, Steve Matt and wife Carol plus Ken and wife Sue had obviously been swotting up on such things as the theme music from Captain Pugwash and what element ahs the symbol AG (silver for those who didnt know). Meanwhile the other club team on table 4 led by Brian and Julie and fellow player Carol clearly fixed their sights on the beautifully decorated wooden spoons on offer for the best placed losers. By the final round tables 9 and 7 were neck and neck on 73, but a good knowledge of the finer points of ants (who lives in a formularium)? gave the Chelmsford team the edge in the dying moments. 82 and the title! Afterwards Ken Edwards, Club Chairman said It was a game of two halves and we won both of them! No seriously, a good time was had by all and I admire the other teams dogged persistence in their pursuit of the woodenware. It was a real Volleyball sandwich of the other tables. Table 4 got their won back by winning one of the three Backwards bingo prizes so honour was served all round and over £800 raised for the Centre. Both teams vowed to come back and defend their titles in the October Winter version. |
